A North Texas man is lucky to be alive after he ran into a guardrail that went through his windshield and out of the driver’s side window.

I say that assuming the guy walking around outside of the car on his phone is the driver. But I’m 99.9% sure he is. At least I hope that’s him.

Regardless, that is one scary-looking wreck. My understanding is that the guardrails used on Texas highways are designed to roll up and away from the vehicle on contact. I have seen its aftermath a few times over the years.

So, that guardrail is either an older design or it malfunctioned. Whatever the case may be, the clip serves as a stark reminder to be careful out on those roads.

It’s easy to get distracted by our phones or all the bells and whistles that come with new cars these days. Your best bet is to just pull over and tend to your business or wait until you get to your destination.

As the old saying goes, “Drive carefully. The life you save may be your own.”
