Have you ever gone fishing for trout? Soon, you will be able to throughout Texas at different ponds, lakes, and water ways. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced this week that stocking for trout would begin soon. Now, not every lake or pond in Texas will get trout, in fact, no playa lake or regular lake in Lubbock will see any trout added here.

The good news is that trout will be stocked in Lamesa, Hale Center, Levelland, Amarillo, San Angelo, Wichita Falls, and around Texas. Texas Parks and Wildlife plans to stock 343,331 rainbow trout in Texas from Nov. 22 through March 1.

The cooler weather makes for great trout fishing weather and if you have never tried fly fishing, now is a great time to learn or practice and as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department points out, you don't have to have fancy equipment to fish for trout.

It doesn’t take a lot of sophisticated fishing equipment to reel in a rainbow trout. They can be caught using simple, light tackle or hand-tied flies on a fly rod. However, anglers should keep an array of baits and lures nearby as well as ice to keep trout fresh.  Rainbow trout are an attractive, tasty fish and anglers can easily find recipes online.

You can see the full list along with dates of stocking from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department here. Remember, if you are over the age of 17 in Texas, you need a fishing license to fish. The daily bag limit for trout is 5.
