Hockey has always been known as a sport that polices itself, and that is almost always done with fighting. But even for hockey diehards, Wednesday night (April 3) provided something we rarely ever get to see.

As soon as the puck dropped between the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils, every player on the ice started fighting in a line brawl.

As the arena erupted, fans from even the highest of high seats took in the sights of the brawl.

It's fun to see how everyone just pairs up and finds a "dance" partner — eight players were assessed fighting majors and were ejected. New York's Matt Rempe was one of the eight ejected, something that he is quite used to. He has appeared in 3 games against the Devils in his career and he has been ejected in all three.

Now, you may be asking why the two teams got straight to fighting, and for that answer we go back to March 11, when Rempe was ejected for an elbow to the head of Devil's defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler. He ended up with a concussion, and New Jersey didn't think that the four-game suspension Rempe received from the league was punishment enough.

The action didn't end with the line brawl on Wednesday evening, as even the coaches got into the action from behind the benches.

Hockey fans were loving it on social media:

Less than four minutes later into the game, the fighting continued, but this time it was more of a typical hockey fight:

When it was all said and done, the Rangers got the 4-3 win, and the teams combined for 166 penalty minutes.
