We all hate seeing scams in the state of Texas.

When someone gets scammed, it affects many of the facts their life. Most importantly, there's a high chance it affects their ability to pay for things. Many not just in Texas, but around the nation worry about their money being stolen.

Sadly, there is always going to be someone trying to take advantage of another person. Thankfully however, there's others who are trying to stop the scammers from harming more people. When a new scam is found, warnings are put out to help other avoid them entirely.

Another scam is happening in the Lone Star State, and this time it's affecting those who have SNAP benefits.

Phone Scam Involving SNAP Benefits And How You Can Avoid It

As reported by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texans have been reporting a fraudulent scheme going across the state. According to reports, a unknown number is spoofing as the HHS Office of Inspector General, and imitating the Lone Star Card Help Desk.

Reports state that the individual who answers the call may hear a recorded voice, or an actual person, asking for their Date of Birth, Social Security Number, and PIN, which the scam alleges to give the person greater or new benefits.

Texas Health and Human Services Commission notes that people with SNAP benefits will never be contacted by email, phone, or text asking for their PIN or card number. They've encouraged those who believe they've been scammed to call 800-777-7328, which is the Lone Star Card Help Desk number.

Persons also believed to be affected can contact 800-436-6184, the HHS Office of Inspector General, or phoning local law enforcement.
