Jimmie Allen is one of the more motivational country personalities on Twitter for a reason. The "Make Me Want To" singer recently shared that as a teen, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

"I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder when I was 13," Allen tells Big 95.5 Chicago radio personality Brooke Ashley Taylor. "What kept me going was knowing that so many other musicians like Charley Pride and others have bipolar disorder and how they were able to function."

Pride's bipolar diagnosis was noted during his 2019 Charley Pride: I'm Just Me documentary on PBS. "Meant to Be" singer Bebe Rexha is another singer who has recently shared she is bipolar.

"On days when you’re motivated and days when you’re depressed, you still find a way to get up," Allen says. So he tweets positive messages into the universe.

"A lot of times when I post these motivational quotes, it’s really for myself. It's more my self-help Twitter, because I read my own tweets."

Allen is the current Taste of Country RISERS ac. During an extensive interview, the Delaware native talked about some of the obstacles he faced growing up and upon moving to Nashville, including poverty, homelessness and being told he couldn't sing country because of the color of his skin. The "Best Shot" hitmaker maintains patience and positivity because that's how his mother and grandmother taught him.
