It’s So Cold in North Texas the Lakes are Steaming
A quiet morning at Lake Bridgeport became a really cool natural display as steam billowed off the water’s surface near the Runaway Bay bridge. You can check out the video at the bottom of this article.

The moment, captured by storm chaser Jason McLaughlin, showcases a rare atmospheric phenomenon that blends science with sheer beauty.
It's Gettin' Foggy
So, what’s happening here? It’s called steam fog, and it happens when cold air moves over warm water. The difference in temperature makes the water release moisture, which turns into misty clouds floating above the surface. It’s a common sight when the seasons start changing, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome to watch. McLaughlin, who spends his time chasing storms and crazy weather, just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
A Perfect Storm
Lake Bridgeport, located west of Fort Worth, experiences many different weather patterns, but this was one of those rare moments when everything lined up perfectly. .
The Right Place at the Righ Time
Of course, the steam didn’t last long. Once the air warmed up, it disappeared. But thanks to McLaughlin’s video, we get to see this awesome natural event anytime we want!
