It seemed like such a good idea at the time. How many times have we thought that? Hopefully that will not be what runs through my mind at the end of the day on Friday, September 22nd. That’s the day I’ll go Over The Edge for River Bend Nature Center.

We’re talking about literally stepping outside your comfort zone here! I’ll be rappelling down the side of the iconic Big Blue in downtown Wichita Falls; all 12 floors of it!

How did I let myself get talked into this situation? That’s a really good question. It all happened when Jennica Lambert, the Exhibits Curator at River Bend Nature Center, came up to chat with me about their new fund raising project. They’ve teamed up with a company called Over The Edge that facilitates these rappelling events worldwide. In fact, Over The Edge has more than 500 events behind them with over 30,000 people rappelling to raise money for local and national charities.

While my part of this will be on Media Day, I’d love it if you made a small donation to River Bend Nature Center on my behalf. The Saturday (September 23rd) event is open to anyone who raises $1,000 for River Bend Nature Center. More than half of the slots are already spoken for, so if you want to be a part of it you’d better get going! You can get started at River Bend’s web site.

With the exception of a few major holidays like Christmas, River Bend Nature Center is open year round and connects people with nature right in the middle of Wichita Falls. Their most popular attractions are the Ruby N. Priddy Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, the River Bottom Forest Trail where Electri-Critters will light up in November, and the United Children’s Garden. You’ll find them at 2200 3rd street off Sunset Drive, just outside Lucy Park.

The incredibly persuasive and ever irrepressible Jennica Lambert will tell you all about going 'Over the Edge' in the player below. Basically, I just handed her a microphone and got out of the way.

Click the donate button below and raise some money for this great local organization! And be watching for the video you know is coming … Assuming I actually have the courage to go “Over The Edge”!
