Texas Faces Higher Tornado Risk Mid to Late May
Spring in Texas is tornado season. For those of you who do not live here and have never experienced a tornado, let me tell you, it is terrifying. So we're really hoping that all this calm weather right now is here to stay, but that might not be the case. We are not in the clear just yet.
May is usually the busiest month for tornadoes in Texas. Some weather experts are already warning that conditions in the atmosphere are starting to shift, making it more likely that storms will form between May 11 and May 25. Reed Timmer, a well-known storm chaser and meteorologist, posted new weather model predictions that show a high chance for “supercells.” These are a type of strong thunderstorm that often leads to tornadoes.

Another meteorologist, Peyton Galyean, shared on TikTok that short-term weather models show quiet weather for now. But she says long-term models suggest that the second half of May could be very different. According to those models, the atmosphere in Texas will soon have everything it needs for big storms. Moisture, wind, and changing air patterns are the perfect recipe. This combination could lead to hail, strong winds, and possibly tornadoes.
@wxwithpeyton May is no stranger to severe weather. While short term models seem relatively calm, longrange seems to have an uptick.
