Carrie Underwood Tears Up Accepting Double 2019 American Music Awards Wins
Carrie Underwood might have thought she was going to get Kanye-d at the 2019 American Music Awards. As she took the stage to accept her award for Favorite Country Album (for the Cry Pretty album), presenter Colbie Smulders stopped her from talking and said there was a "surprise" for her.
A stunned Underwood relaxed when she learned she was getting another award, for Favorite Female Artist — Country.
Underwood thanked God before thanking her family for sticking with her on the road in 2019.
“It was hard but it was amazing … Mommy loves you," she said, speaking to her two young sons about her six-month-long Cry Pretty Tour 360 that wrapped in October.
Then she spotted her manager Ann Edelblute crying and started to tear up. The tears came quicker when she started to speak to the fans.
"Thank you to the fans. Thank you so much," Underwood said. “You’re the ones that show up to the shows … you guys love on us so well and we thank you for that."
Cry Pretty topped Experiment by Kane Brown and Dan + Shay's self-titled album in the album category. Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris were in the Favorite Female Artist — Country category with the 36-year-old. Underwood, Ballerini, Brown and Dan + Shay all walked the red carpet prior to the 2019 American Music Awards.
