There’s an animal in Australia that’s giving the Easter Bunny a run for his money. It’s called a bilby, and it’s a rare marsupial that looks almost like a cross between a rabbit and a kangaroo. They’re small and endangered, but they’re about as adorable as a small animal can be.

Conservationists are looking to replace the Easter Bunny with the Easter Bilby. It wouldn’t be a huge stretch since they look similar in many ways, and it would bring about awareness in conservation efforts for the little marsupial. There are only about 600 of these critters left in the world, and stores in Australia are getting behind the effort. Many are already selling chocolate bilbies instead of chocolate bunnies.

I didn’t find any information regarding what kids think of making the switch, but they’ll probably be okay with it as long as it’s a furry little animal. Take a look at a video of the bilby below and let me know what you think.
