The news of the fatal shooting of a WDBJ 7 news crew in Virginia is hitting somewhat close to home as we find out that the shooter has ties to the Midland, Texas area.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Vester Lee Flanagan, also known as Bryce Williams, and the reported shooter in this morning's deadly shooting of a news crew in Virginia, apparently has ties to the Midland-Odessa area.

Before his Facebook page was taken down he had stated in his profile that he had worked for KMID-TV Big 2 at some point in the past.

He stated on his Facebook account "I worked for 3 months in Midland, TX at KMID as a reporter. The news director was a nightmare and complained I was TOO NICE!! LOL!! Seriously?"

The latest from Newswest 9 is that Flanigan did work for KMID for about 5 months in 1995.

The Associated Press has confirmed the gunman has died at the hospital from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
