The Wichita Falls City Council is getting ready to vote on whether to tear down 15 old and/or damaged buildings around town. They do this every year because some of these bad boys are in really bad shape. Some are falling apart, others are completely abandoned, and a few might even be dangerous to people living nearby. Wichita Falls Considers Tearing Down Unsafe Buildings
There are several reasons that city officials have to do this each year. They say these buildings look awful, bring down the value of nearby homes, and attract things like vandalism and trash. Some have even caught fire. Basically, these places are making neighborhoods feel less safe.

So, this process isn’t as simple as grabbing a bulldozer and knocking stuff over. First, the city has to follow certain rules. They have to try to contact the property owners and give them a chance to fix the problems. If the owner doesn’t respond or can’t fix it, then the city might move forward with tearing it down.
