Wichita Falls Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile
Mosquitos are already the absolute worst. I'm one of those folks who attract these pests like a magnet. They can smell my blood from miles away, it seems. But normally, they are just a mild nuisance, creating an itchy little bump that drives you crazy.
But dang, now they are testing positive for the West Nile Virus here in Wichita Falls? No, sir, I do not like this at all. Health officials have just confirmed that a group of mosquitoes from Wichita Falls tested positive for West Nile Virus. The mosquitoes were caught in what's called Mosquito Zone 17, which is an area in the east-central part of the city. Every year, the Texas Department of State Health Services runs tests like this to check if mosquitoes are carrying dangerous viruses, and this time, they found one.

West Nile Virus is spread when a mosquito carrying the virus bites someone. Most people who get infected won’t even know it. They might not feel anything at all. But for others, it can feel like you’ve got the flu. You might get a fever, feel really tired, have headaches, or even feel sick to your stomach. In rare cases, it can get much more serious and lead to problems with the brain or nervous system.
This isn’t something to panic over, but it’s a reminder to stay alert. West Nile isn’t new, but it can be dangerous if we don’t take it seriously. Keep an eye out, take care of yourself, and stay safe this mosquito season.
