Fix Potholes Before Charging for Parking in Downtown Wichita Falls
Did y'all see the really cool paint job that the owner of the now pay-to-park lots downtown slapped on those pothole-ridden spots?
“Where’s the money come from? It’s gotta come from somewhere.”
Did you watch it? That's about the most half-assed attempt at fixing up a property I might have ever witnessed. They literally painted the yellow lines over potholes, weeds, and exposed dirt and grass. I'm assuming they will get around to at least straightening up the parking curbs. In an interview with KFDX Channel 3, the new owner of the lots, M.G. Muehlberger, says the money raised from these lots will be used to repair them, which is great if it actually happens.
According to Stacy Hawkins, the owner of the Broken Tap, they had been paying $300 a month for their customers to park in one of those lots. It would have been nice if the previous owner, Muehlberger's dad, had used some of that money to throw some asphalt in a couple of those potholes, but that was never the case. Hawkins stated that she had to pay for serious potholes to be filled at her own expense.

Look, if those parking lots do get a makeover, that will be nice. They are an eyesore. I just always thought the saying was "If you build it, they will come." Not, "If enough of them come, eventually, we will build it. Probably, no promises."
But dang, this first round of upgrades is not promising. If ya'll literally can't be bothered to pull a patch of weeds up and just paint right over them, I'm not holding my breath.
